How do I uninstall conflicting software on my device?

If you’ve previously used another operator’s broadband on your device – it’s very possible that this will cause a problem when you try to install Meteor’s.

Most operators use the same manufacturer for their mobile broadband devices. As your new Meteor modem will come installed with the same manufacturer’s software, but with Meteor settings this could cause problems when trying to set things up.

To uninstall another operator’s software, please follow the steps below:

If you’re using a PC

  • Click Start
  • Open the Control Panel
  • Click on ‘uninstall a program’
  • Find the name of the operator’s software (e.g. Vodafone/ o2/ Three) and click ‘uninstall/change’. Also make sure to source the manufacturer’s software (Huawei modem drivers) and uninstall this too.
  • That’s it – the conflicting software is now uninstalled. Switch your device off and on again. When you re-start the device you can continue installing your new broadband software.

If you’re using a Mac

   › For OSX 10.5

Step one:  Making sure the modem is not connected, open the applications folder and drag the Broadband to go icon to the trash.

Step two: Click the ‘Apple’ menu and then system preferences:

Step three: Select ‘network’:

Step four: Select ‘HUAWEI Mobile’ from the left side and click the Minus symbol on the bottom:

Step five: Select ‘DIAG’ from the left side and click the Minus symbol on the bottom.

Final step: Click the red X and then ‘apply’ to save the changes:

That’s it – your mobile broadband is now fully uninstalled from your mac.

   › For OSX 10.4

Step one:  Making sure the modem is not connected, open the applications folder and drag the ‘Broadband to go’ icon to the trash.

To fully uninstall it do the following:

Step two: Click the ‘Apple’ menu and then system preferences:

Step three: Select ‘network’:

Step four: Click the ‘Show’ drop-down and select ‘network port configurations. Select “HUAWEI Mobile” from the list and click Delete.

Final step: Repeat the previous two steps until all entries for ‘HUAWEI Mobile’ are removed. Finally click ‘apply now’ and close the window.

That’s it – your mobile broadband is now fully uninstalled from your mac.

*These steps aren't required for the HiLink stick devices as they use a different method to connect.
