How do I set up 4G on my iPhone?

 

Before you can avail of 4G on an iPhone you must ensure that:

You are in a 4G area

As 4G is new, it's not available everywhere just yet. Our coverage maps will constantly update when new areas come online - so check out if you can get 4G in your area.

Your iPhone can pick up 4G

The following models can avail of 4G: iPhone 5, iPhone 5S, iPhone 5C, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad 4th generation and iPad Mini.

You have a 4G plan and SIM

Input the correct settings >

Follow the steps below to switch on 4G on your phone:

ios6:

  • Open ‘Settings’.
  • Select ‘General’.
  • Select ‘Mobile Data’.
  • Switch ‘Mobile Data’ and ‘Enable 3G/4G’ on.

TIP: Very occasionally an app will require that the third option on this screen 'Data Roaming' is enabled. While there is no problem having this switched on while in Ireland, you may wish to switch this off when you go roaming.

 

ios7:

  • Open ‘Settings’
  • Select ‘General’
  • Open ‘About’
  • A message will appear on screen prompting you to update your Carrier Settings – select ‘Update’

 

iTunes:

  • Connect your iPhone to your PC/Mac using your USB cable
  • Open iTunes (making sure that you are connected to the Internet)
  • A Window will open on screen, asking you whether you would like to install carrier update settings. Click ‘Update’
  • Once the update has completed you’ll see on a message on screen

 

Over WiFi:

  • Open ‘Settings’
  • Go to ‘General’
  • Select ‘About’
  • A message will appear on screen prompting you to update your carrier settings – select ‘Update’
  • Once the update has completed you’ll see on a message on screen
