What should I know/check before I go?

Tell us whether you are a Bill Pay or a Pay As You Go customer and we’ll give you a breakdown of everything you should know:

Bill Pay

A quick guide…what you need to know when travelling:

Your roaming service is already enabled:

So you don’t need to do anything to set up roaming.

Your mobile automatically connects to the best value network abroad:

You don’t need to worry about selecting a network when you arrive at your destination.  We will automatically connect you to the best value network in the area you are visiting.

The cost of data roaming:

In the EU there are 4 options available to you:

Our new plans come with a FREE 1GB data allowance, totally dedicated to your roaming needs. Check them out here.

Alternatively you can buy an Add-On, opt in to our ‘Roam Like Home’ offer or you can do neither and be charged standard rates. Select the country you are travelling to and we will show you the rates for these 3 options so you can ensure to pick what’s right based on how you use your mobile while away.

If you choose an Add-On it’s important to buy it just before you travel or as soon as you land as once it’s bought it is applied to your account immediately, so you don’t want to waste it on days that you are not abroad!

You can also opt in to ‘Roam Like Home’ so that once your Add-On is used you still enjoy great value. View Roam Like Home rates

If you would prefer to use the standard rates and had previously signed up to our ‘Roam Like Home’ offer, you can opt out by texting “Europe Out” to 50104, standard rates will then apply.

In the USA: To get the best value on data roaming in the USA we advise you to buy a roaming data Add-On. View USA rates

For all other destinations outside of the EU and USA you can see the standard rates on the rates page for your chosen destination

How to connect to data:

You can automatically make calls and texts when you arrive at your destination but you’ll need to enable data roaming if you want to use the internet. To do so:

  • Enable the data roaming setting in your network settings as this normally is defaulted off.

  • Once this is enabled and your phone tries to use data (maybe you are in your browser or your app’s are updating) you will receive a text from us asking you to click a link to enable roaming.

  • Click the link to accept what offer you would like to avail of to cover data costs incurred. We recommend you buy a data Add-On if an option appears available for where you are visiting as it’s the most cost effective way to use data abroad. If you choose standard rates you agree to browse at the standard rates listed for your destination

If you do not want to use data when abroad, simple disable the data roaming option in your network settings. View our Smartphone Help guide for steps for your phone.

Checking your voicemail messages:

In most countries, you can dial 171 to hear your voicemail, just as you would at home.

Where this is not available, follow these steps:

  • Dial your international mailbox number by dialling a ‘5’ after your prefix (e.g. + 353 85 5 123 4567)
  • When you hear your greeting, press # and dial your password (this is 0000 unless you have changed it)
  • Press # and then 1 to listen to your messages.

The numbers you need while travelling:

What country codes should I use?

It’s useful to know the country codes you’ll need while there.

To call back to Ireland it’s 00 353 (drop the O in your prefix and add the rest of the number you are calling e.g. 00 353 85 1234567).

To call numbers in the country you’re roaming in check the international dialing code for the country.
