I'm being charged for premium texts?
Premium texts are entertainment services provided by third party companies. These services are charged at higher rates than standard SMS. Examples of premium text services include horoscopes and ringtone services.
The only way you can become subscribed to a premium rate text service is by interacting with the company in some way – e.g. you may have subscribed to a service by sending an SMS from your phone, or by inputting your number into a subscription form online.
We recommend reading the terms and conditions of any service you provide your number to. It is important to note that some competitions are not subscription based (such as a once off entry into a competition – e.g The Late Late show on RTÉ).
If you know the five digit number of the provider contacting you, text ‘STOP’ directly to the number (as sometimes replying to the message will not work).
You’ll need to have the cost of a standard text message on your phone to do this. You should be unsubscribed within 24 - 48 hours.
If you’re not sure what number is contacting you, you can find the number by logging in to MyMeteor and viewing your call details.
If you would like contact information for the premium rate provider you have subscribed to you can visit ComReg’s dedicated site Phonesmart.
